The Death of okkiW

Today I decided to abandon my moniker okkiW. I realized that my hobby has chanced to mean something bigger than just activity to fill my spare time. It has developed into a way to express my creative power. I now consider it simply as ART.

I felt that I needed okkiW in the past to hide my identity and to be my "hobby me" but all that started to feel little to schizophrenic ;) For now on I want to do my art simply as Mikko.

I also made it easier for you guys too. I figured it is easier for you to follow the ramblings of a person with a real name rather than some silly alias =) (ever been in situations, where you receive emails from fellow bloggers with monikers but whom are using their real names when emailing... confusing? )

All this could seem like a small thing but it is very important to me. With this chance I want to appear more honest and true to YOU all.

++++

+RIP+

Still no less Spiky Rat...

  1. I keep debating on whether or not to do the same. I always feel odd when people call me "old School Terminator" in public and as time goes on, more people regognize my models when I go to events and then it happens and then I have to give them a name I actually use in real life ... and it goes on. Thanks for this post. I may have to follow you down the same path. BTW, in case I never commented here before, you have incredible work Mikko.

    1. Thanks!
I think you should do that!
In the end, it is you who makes the models;)

  2. Using your real name allows for credit to be correctly given.

I suggest a Jazz Funeral for the moniker okkiW.

(Then again being from New Orleans I'm biased)

  3. I can understand that step. In the german scene we normally use our real names when talking together in forums e.g. But mainlythis is common if we know each other from real life meetings like competitions. I just like it more. I'm well known with my nick, and I still like it, but I like my real name as well - so good decision!

  5. First of all: Mate, that headline scared the shit out of me! Don't do that! ;-)

Concerning the matter at hand, though, those models of yours are really something to be proud of, so the decision makes sense I guess.

okkiW est mort. Vive Mikko! ;-)

  7. I keep debating wether to do this or not... but i have, what seems tp me, to be a real reason to hide my true name...

    I'm a teacher..

not only, I'm a games Design Teacher.... so a lot of my students are in the scene...

as my hobby is something i do away from work, i'm not sure i want it to encroach.. i can see all the ways it would make life easier, but.. I just dont quite have the courage to do it yet..

  8. I understand the move, I did it myself actually. I think it comes to the point when one has to say "hey, this is just me."
I really dig your work and its great to see you go from strength to strength. Long may it continue. All the best.

I think this is something that every blogger will come across in some point. Everybody makes their own decicions...

  9. Rational decision, Rat-bro. Now it just looks stupid that I'm hanging on with my pseudonym, so I might have to make the same decision...
