Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels

"From mi point of view, I see two barrels pointing at yer head."

+ The Rifleman +

Rogues Malus.

Here's the second personality for my INQ28 band of rogues, The Rifleman. His name is unknown, as is his origin. Few are his words, tone of his voice thick and dark. He is a lunatic of sort, a religious fanatic, protecting the Emperor's word on a strap with his mouth lathering.

He carries out his tasks with an uncompromising efficiency. Maybe he is an ex-militia, his procedures and habits are like those of Imperial Guard? His violent and selfish nature makes him unstable yet very functional tool in the middle of intense fight.

The Rifleman turned out pretty well, if I may say so myself... What I'm especially proud of is the strap of the gun. It was a detail that I decided to add just in the last minute. It gives another nice reference to the drawn picture.....

P.S. Sorry phiq, no scribbling on the shotty. I had to murder many of the darlings to keep things in order and this detail was one of them.

Rifleman WIP III

Here's a quick overview of the current status of Rifleman.

Please don't mind the gap between his right hand and arm, it'll be sealed with the green stuff after I've painted the rifle. His hands will be covered in dry blood. Also, the rifle's sides will be decorated with bold Latin slogans, something that'll rhyme with death and sorrow (thanks phiq for the idea!).

Rifleman WIP II

Almost there! Still need to add some finishing touches before priming. After that, it's time for another intensive painting session...

Rifleman WIP

Here's some work-in-progress shots from the Rifleman. I decided to realign his pose and made it look more like he'd actually be in the middle of action rather than just carrying his rifle at rest on his shoulder, as seen in the drawing...

There's still some detailing to do along with the shoes. The rifle also needs some heavy modding, maybe a Winchester style reloading mechanism and some hi-tech components for sighting. The grunt is also faithfully carrying Code of the Inquisitorial Process, part MXXVII / chapter IX, on a carrying strap next to some hand grenades and small pouches.

The Book

Recently I've spent handful of hours with my nose inside Emperor's Will, an awe-inspiring compilation book of Warhammer 40.000 artwork. This book is one that every enthusiastic 40k hobbyist should check out if they wish to dwell deeper in to the dark universe. The book is full of amazing, mind-opening images of paintings and illustrations made by Games Workshop's art department.

I'm not going to write another review of this tome, but if you're interested of one, I'd then recommend checking out Tears of Envy's blog.

The reason for me mentioning this book is that it has been inspiring me a lot lately, especially in my latest hobby related activity. The book also works as a proxy, reminding me of that moment I experienced the enlightenment and started re-organizing my thoughts regarding my creative side.

Speaking of creativity, here's the latest of my drawings, another member of the Imperial Inquisition...

Water colours, W&N inks, white acrylic paint and black ink pencil

Rifleman, veteran, devotee, religious fanatic, scum. These strong words shall tell his story for now. There's more to follow, I just need to finish Captain Gaga first, the one that has been lying in my drawer for too long...

O'yeah, I happened to visit my town's framing shop couple of weeks ago and for my delight they had a nice collection of painting stuff there too, one of them being nice collection of Winsor & Newton's inks. Of course I had to grab couple of them pots to take home with me so that I could finally try 'em out. I must say, they worked out pretty well, definitely something I'll try out in some of my next miniature projects...
